Austin Local Interest Group News
By: Michele Bonner, Austin LIG Secretary/Communications Chair

The Austin LIG recently held elections and the 2008 Board of Directors was chosen. In order to provide continuity of leadership, the Austin LIG Board has voted to stagger board position expirations.  As a result, the positions of President, Programs Director, Secretary, and Vendor Liaison were elected for two year terms.  The positions of Vice President, Treasurer, and Membership Director were extended for one year and will be reelected in 2008 for two year terms.  The Vice President and Treasurer were elected for one year to complete their existing terms.  Sam Wood, who has served as Membership Director since 2006, will continue in that position through the end of 2008. The officers for 2008 are:

President – Michele C. Bonner, Austin Energy
Vice President – Robert Stroud, CA
Programs – Stephen Sturdevant, Temple-Inland
Membership – Sam Wood, CompassLearning
Secretary – Susan Roy, Temple-Inland
Treasurer – Mary Cheryl Dorwart, TX Dept. of Information Resources
Vendor Liaison – Tim Wood, Plexent

We would like to extend special thanks to Lorne McLachlan of Sierra Systems for his exceptional service as Programs Director, Vendor Liaison, and Strategic Planning Chair for the past two years.

We’re looking forward to the opportunity to grow our LIG in 2008.  We’ve started an itSMF Austin LIG group on LinkedIn to provide our members with additional opportunities to network between our bimonthly meetings. We are also planning to host bimonthly round-table events in the coming year.  Finally, the itSMF Texas Expo (ITE) 2008, a regional event that will be co-hosted by the Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio LIGs is in the early planning stages. For more information about ITE 2008 please contact Stephen Sturdevant at programs@itsmfaustin.org.

We are always seeking volunteers to help with committees and special events.  Anyone interested in becoming more involved in the Austin LIG is encouraged to email us at info@itsmfaustin.org.
