Atlanta LIG Vendor Shootout
By: Mike Walter, Communications Chair

The Cobb Galleria was the scene of the Atlanta LIG’s second annual Vendor Shootout. On November 14th , 198 people, more than 65% of them practitioners, attended the all-day event. Attendees had the opportunity to visit with 26 vendors and see three shootouts. Membership Chair, Lloyd Tate, and Treasurer, Mindi Crozier, registered the attendees. Keeping all the gunslingers in line and the events of the day moving forward was our LIG President, Brian Childers, in full cowboy regalia.

Each shootout put two vendors head to head, presenting an answer to the same topic. The first was on "Metrics, metrics, metrics. I am not able to demonstrate value, what can I do to start presenting value?” with Steve Loftness, Principal Consultant at TDG against Marina Yesakova, Senior Strategic Marketing Manager at BMC. The second duel was “ITIL® and Compliance, what does this mean for me today, and tomorrow” and pitted Daniel Boutin, Strategic Solutions, from MKS against Martin Yates, Business Development Manager from HP.

Following a southern buffet lunch and a Disney video montage, our keynote speaker Rick Streeter, Walt Disney EIT Service Management, spoke on The Walt Disney Company and their ITSM journey. The afternoon brought the third shootout, “Ok, so I have the basics of IT Service Management, what’s next, what should I be planning for, what is it I need to be doing?” with Mike Vogt, Service Management Practice Manager at Strategic Technologies, Inc. and Toyan Espeut, Eastern Region Director of newScale going head to head.

Vendors presented prizes throughout the day by vendors with grand prizes given to wrap up the event. A random drawing of the evaluations submitted by participants awarded a set of ITIL® v3 books and two American Express gift cards. Entuity won a free table next year for being the vendor that invited the most practitioners. Program Chair, Andrew Brummer, served as mastermind, Project Manager, venue coordinator, and bag man with Vendor coordination assistance provided by Will Johnson, our Vendor Liaison Chair.
